Why proof of investing in staff really is in the pudding at Oscars of Cardiff
We like to think Oscars of Cardiff isn’t just an average restaurant – and for many reasons.
But we think something that makes us a little bit special is how we approach the training and development of our staff.
We have built a strong team of individuals who are happy in their jobs, enthusiastic and want to stay in the restaurant industry.
Why is this important? Well, we think it makes a big difference to the customer experience.
Our team runs much like a family unit and each person’s passion for Oscars is reflected in the brilliant customer service every team member provides, day in day out.
Our high standard of service and the warm ambience we’ve created together are the things that make our customers feel at home with us, the things they tell us they appreciate time and again.
In an industry notorious for a high staff turnaround, we put a big emphasis on finding hard-working individuals who are looking for a career rather than just a stop-gap job.
In return for their hard work and passion for customer service, we offer ongoing training, encouragement and nurturing which often results in a very promising career progression for our team members.
Giving our employees a chance to embark on an exciting career path, especially when jobs are scarce, is very rewarding to us.
Skills can be easily taught, but the right attitude and a desire to succeed is difficult to find. So, we don’t shy away from employing individuals who lack experience in restaurant environments. It’s more important to us that our team has the right attitude, passion and work ethic. These are the key ingredients to the success of the team behind Oscars and why we confidently call Oscars unique in the people we employ and the service that we can provide as a result.
We have been using this method for a decade now, long before Jamie Oliver came on the scene with his Fifteen project, which we of course are big fans of!.
We started using this approach in our sister restaurant Oscars of Cowbridge and our record over the years speaks for itself. Most of our current managers and senior chefs started as waitresses and kitchen porters so the proof really is in the pudding!
We’re so proud to welcome customers into the warm environment we have shaped collectively and we would really like to use our blog to share what life is like behind the kitchen doors with our loyal customers.
So we will be asking our employees about their experience of working as part of the Oscars team in future posts! So watch this space…
In the meantime, we hope that you will join us soon to experience for yourself a little of the Oscars of Cardiff magic….
